Integrated Academics

Integrated Curriculum English and math courses (English IV and Math IV) are specifically designed to incorporate real world communication arts and mathematics skills into a corresponding 3-hour block class to prepare students for post-secondary training, college, and their careers.  These courses are taught strictly by secondary certified English and math instructors.

English and math credit can be earned by students who are dually enrolled in a 3-Hour Block Class as well as English IV and/or Math IV at the Cass Career Center. These students will take English IV and/or Math IV as well as their block class to learn the corresponding senior-level skills in communications and mathematics.

English and math credit can be earned by students who have dually enrolled in a 3-Hour Block Class as well as English IV and/or Math IV at the Cass Career Center. Since English IV and Math IV are integrated within a 3-Hour Block Class, only 0.25 credit can be earned per semester. Students who wish to earn 1.0 credit in English IV and/or Math IV must complete two years in both the 3-Hour Block Class as well as English IV and/or Math IV at Cass Career Center.

Yes, each class has its own curriculum teaching to secondary Course Level Expectations as set by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  English IV and Math IV are tied to the corresponding block course (such as Automotive Technology or Fire Science); however, English IV and Math IV have separate course expectations that are above and beyond the literacy and numeracy skills already embedded in the curricula for the block courses.  Students earn the credit for their block course as well as English IV and Math IV for each has its own set of expectations and skills.

This course covers instruction in methods of technical writing, work readiness, research, and effective written and oral communications. Students will compose a variety of technical publications, including expository (informative) and persuasive forms; students will complete formal and informal presentations; and students will complete a course portfolio and senior capstone project. This portfolio will exemplify students' work which they will take with them upon graduation. All activities will relate directly to the students' career field of choice, making this class practical, meaningful, and fun!

This course presents informational methods of contextual mathematical instruction directly related to the corresponding 3-Hour Block Class.  Students will review preexisting concepts and learn new concepts specific to the chosen trade to prepare students for higher education or to enter directly into that trade. Students will complete various assignments including, but not limited to, team projects, periodic problem solving, lab participation, and job site applications.  As with English, all activities completed will relate directly to the students' career field of choice, making this class practical, meaningful, and fun!
