The two-year Health Services program at Cass Career Center prepares students for immediate employment in the healthcare industry and equips them for further education in various healthcare fields. Participants will be ready to excel in multiple roles within the industry. The program maintains high expectations, requiring students to uphold professional conduct.
Health Services I is for first-year students (ideally juniors) and they will study medical terminology, health sciences, anatomy, and healthcare careers. They will gain hands-on patient care experience, preparing them for competencies necessary to earn their CNA certification. All required components for the CNA certification will be completed during class (no outside clinical hours are required). Students must submit a valid Social Security card and pass a background check. A class uniform (scrubs) is required.
Advanced Health Services is for second-year students (seniors only), who have completed Health Services I, earned their CNA certification, and meet GPA and attendance requirements, and they will participate in internships at local clinical sites 3 days a week and spend 2 days in the classroom working towards certifications in phlebotomy and electrocardiogram (EKG). Attendance and performance will be closely monitored during internships. First-year seniors are not eligible for this program but may participate in Health Services I.
All students must submit a valid Social Security card and pass a background check. A class uniform (scrubs) is required.
Eligibility Requirements
Grades: 11-12; minimum 2.5 GPA and 90% attendance record at home high school required; mandatory interview with the instructor prior to enrollment in the class; strong reading, writing, math and study skills recommended.
Credit
3.0 per academic year in Health Services/Advanced HS; 0.5 per academic year in Integrated English*; and 0.5 per academic year in Integrated Math*
*English and math content is integrated within the Health Services/Advanced HS program, and content is specific to advanced communication and calculations skills necessary in this industry.
Dual College Credit
University of Central Missouri; may be earned for a total of 4 college credit hours in NUR 1700: Intro. to Professional Nursing, NUR 2000: E-Health and Cyber Wellness, and NUR 2700 Professional Nursing Seminar
