In the first year, students will use the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council’s Career Connections Program to learn general woodworking and carpentry skills, covering basic and intermediate carpentry, commercial and residential construction fundamentals, and essential construction site safety. They will also develop professionalism skills vital for the global workforce.
In the second year, students can specialize in residential or commercial construction, or both. They will acquire advanced carpentry skills such as rough-in/framing, doors, windows, siding, roofing, drywall, and other relevant skills. Continued emphasis on advanced professionalism will be part of their curriculum.
Upon completing the program, certified graduates may qualify for advanced placement in the Mid-America Carpenters Union Registered Apprentice Program, paving the way for a successful career in the construction industry.
Eligibility Requirements
Grades: 11-12; interview with the instructor prior to enrollment in the class; minimum 2.5 GPA and 90% attendance record at home high school recommended
Credit
3.0 per academic year in Construction; 0.5 per academic year in Integrated English*; and 0.5 per academic year in Integrated Math*
*English and math content is integrated within the Construction program, and content is specific to advanced communication and calculations skills necessary in this industry.
