IV Therapy-Online Course and Endorsement Evaluation
IV Therapy Certification (For Licensed Practical Nurses)
Online Course
Cass Career Center provides licensed practical nurses with the opportunity to obtain their IV Therapy certification by completing an online course and skills check off. Tuition for this course is $650.00, which includes the textbook. The expected time to spend with materials is approximately forty-eight hours. The course starts once the application and payment have been processed. The course can be completed at an individual pace. The instructor for this course is Deena Roedel, MSN, RN, CNE.
After completing the online course materials, the student will check off on the following skills with the instructor or a preceptor:
- Insertion and discontinuation of a peripheral IV catheter
- IV fluid administration (initiation and maintenance)
- Administration of IV piggyback intermittent medications
- Regulation of IV fluid flow rate
- Dressing change of a central line
- Blood draw via a central line
The checkoffs can be completed by a registered nurse (holding a primary license in Missouri) employed at the nurse's agency, located in Missouri (after approval by instructor) or by the instructor in the lab at Cass Career Center in Harrisonville, MO.
IV Therapy Certification by Endorsement
Cass Career Center also assists licensed practical nurses who need IV Certification by Endorsement in Missouri and have a valid IV Therapy Certification in another state.
To obtain Endorsement for Missouri IV Therapy Certification, you will need to complete the application, submit the $100.00 payment and email Deena Roedel (deena.roedel@harrisonvilleschools.org) the following documents:
- A transcript/certificate from the school you attended stating that you have completed IV Therapy. Transcripts can be official or unofficial.
- A copy of the syllabus that outlines what is taught in the IV Therapy course.
- List of any skills completed in the course, if available.
- If the syllabus and skills completed is not available, LPN’s will need to submit state statutes for IV Therapy from the state they hold their certification.
Once students have completed either the IV Therapy course or the IV Therapy Certification by Endorsement, they will be mailed a hard copy transcript and certificate. They will also be emailed an unofficial copy of both.
Please note:
If you are a current MO licensed LPN, MO State Board of Nursing will update your license in Nursys to IV Certified. This is only applicable to MO. If you travel or work in another state, you will have to become IV Certified in that state. Once completed with the course you will receive a transcript and certificate from Cass Career Center.
If you are not a current MO licensed LPN but are taking a contract in MO, MO State Board of Nursing will not make any changes in Nursys. For each facility you plan to work, you will have to take your transcript and certificate from Cass Career Center to each individual employer to choose whether to accept the IV Certification or not.
